Cerris Systems performed the plumbing and mechanical preconstruction and construction scope of work for the replacement corrections facility in Lansing, Kansas.
The 418,000-SF precast facility replaced part of the 150+ year-old prison, and features separate minimum and medium/maximum security areas featuring 512 beds and 1,920 beds respectively. The updates also included new intake units, improved site circulation and parking, improved lighting, and security measures. Additional spaces included in this project were spaces for medical services, food service, spiritual support, indoor recreation, and staff support. Cerris Systems prefabricated and installed all underground utilities and connections for the expansion, as well as inmate cells, which were designed with additional safety and security in mind.
The project was completed in 21 months — the minimum security portion was completed and opened five weeks ahead of schedule, and the maximum security portion opened on-time and on budget.
The Kansas City Chapter of the Associated General Contractors (AGC) awarded named this project “Project of the Year in its $100 million – $250 million category.
