Carolinas Medical Center - Central Energy Plant

Selected by Balfour Beatty to provide mechanical preconstruction and construction of a new 40,000 square foot, 10,500-ton Central Energy Plant including 7,500 feet of underground chilled water and steam distribution piping. Our scope of work included the installation of six (6) 1,750-ton chillers, five (5) boilers, six (6) cooling towers, thirteen (13) pumps and three (3) 50,000-gallon underground fuel oil tanks. Underground pre-insulated piping distribution included 3,500 feet of 24” chilled water piping; 4,000 feet of 12”, 8” and 6” steam and condensate piping. This central energy plant suports the new 7-story, 229,000 sq. ft. Levine Children’s Hospital and new 12-story, 250,000 sq. ft. ICU Tower, both of which were also constructed by MMC Contractors.
