Office Building and Retail
Union Pacific Center

Since its inception in 1862, Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) has been part of the fabric of America, connecting far-flung businesses and providing an economical system of transportation. UPRR, the largest railroad in North America, continues this proud tradition today, with routes in 23 states across the western two-thirds of the U.S. On May 10, 2002—exactly 133 years from the day the company drove a golden spike into the ground to celebrate completion of the transcontinental railroad—Union Pacific Corp., the parent company of the railroad, held a ground breaking ceremony for a new world headquarters building. The structure unites 4,100 employees in a single, 1.1-million square foot, 19-story building.

Union Pacific Center features a glass exterior and a 19-story atrium that allows an abundance of natural light into the building’s core, visually connects employees and creates a sense of community. Other amenities include: a 600-seat employee cafeteria, a fitness facility, a conference and learning center, a data center, broadcasting facilities, and retail space.

MMC Contractors provided mechanical and plumbing systems for the project. Our work included installation of a state-of-the-art HVAC system, which uses 4 air-handling units for each of the 19 floors to furnish supply air through a pressurized access area underneath a raised floor. MMC Contractors also installed 18 computer room air conditioning units in the 36,000-square foot data processing center. Other equipment installed includes: 4, 850-ton chillers; 4 cooling towers; 3 heat exchangers; 5 chilled water pumps; 5 condenser water pumps; and 3 air purification system units.
