Creighton University Championship Basketball Center

MMC Contractors was awarded the complete mechanical and plumbing scope of work by Kiewit Building Group for Creighton University’s new Championship Center. The 42,000 square foot building, located in downtown Omaha, Nebraska, is a 2-story structure designed to function as the men’s basketball training facility, complete with basketball courts, locker rooms, hydrotherapy areas, as well as office and study space.

MMC Contractors' design-build/GMP capabilities allowed us to evaluate different mechanical systems before design was completed and assist the engineer during the design process with cost, sizing, and system evaluation. This project is 100% BIM (Building Information Modeling). The entire mechanical system was modeled to allow coordination with the architectural and structural elements, as well as coordination with other trades.

New equipment installed at the Championship Center:

  • Six (6) 15-20-Ton McQuay Gas-Fired Rooftop Air Handling Units
  • Three (3) Daikin Split Systems
  • Two (2) 265 MBH gas-fired condensing boilers for the heating water reheat system
  • Two (2) Patterson Vertical IN-Line Pumps and VFDs
  • 34 terminal boxes with hot water reheat
  • Three (3) Navien Instantaneous Water Heaters
  • 62 plumbing fixtures including water closets, showers, urinals, sinks, lavatories, and drinking fountains
  • Seven (7) Indeeco Electric Cabinet Unit Heaters
  • One (1) 3-Ton Split System Chiller for the Polar Pool
  • One (1) 5-Ton Seresco Dehumidification Unit
  • Two (2) Dristeem Duct-Mounted Humidifiers
