MMC Contractors New Jersey Awarded Hospital Project

Monday, January 29, 2018

The MMC Contractors New Jersey office is proud to announce the newest project on their roster — the Cooper University Hospital, located in Camden, NJ.

This design build project (design assist for MMC) includes the installation of a new turbine generator building that will house a new 4.4 MW natural gas combustion turbine generator and associated heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Steam generated from the HRSG will be utilized to drive a 1,400-ton steam turbine chiller and supplement the campus steam and chilled water systems. The CHP plant, operating in conjunction with back-up generators, will allow the hospital to operate normally during an outage.

MMC's scope on the project consists of all mechanical and plumbing work, installation of the major mechanical equipment, and turbine generator and modifications to the existing mechanical infrastructure serving the buildings.

This project is part of the New Jersey Resilience Bank initiative. It's the first public infrastructure bank in the nation to focus on energy resilience, since the Super Storm Sandy and other recent storms wreaked havoc on this part of the country. Its purpose is to identify and support projects that will enable critical facilities throughout the state to be operational during future outages.
