MMC Contractors’ MaineGeneral Regional Hospital project featured in Construction Executive

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Construction Executive featured the MaineGeneral Regional Hospital project because of the use of integrated project delivery throughout the planning and construction process. Integrated project delivery (IPD) centers on involving all contractors and subcontractors in the early stages of planning. This prevents subcontractors from feeling siloed and not seeing the bigger picture of the construction project.  IPD has to be based upon strong relationships and teamwork to be effective. IPD is important to projects because it decreases costs, increases the speed of the project and reduces the chance for litigation.

MMC Contractors partnered with Johnson & Jordan, Inc. to work on the plumbing and medical gasses in the new hospital. A strong partnership between MMC Contractors and Johnson & Jordan was integral to the success of the overall IPD plan. According to the article, team members from MMC Contractors and Johnson & Jordan worked side by side to “review one-line diagrams that eventually are input into 3-D building information modeling (BIM) software specifically geared toward pipe fabrication.”

The MaineGeneral Regional Hospital is set to be completed in December 2013. This is the largest healthcare construction project in Maine’s history. Upon completion, the hospital is expected to achieve a LEED Silver certification.
